Hops
A
hop is a single step that data takes as it travels on the internet to its destination. Fewer
hops from start to finish generally result in a faster connection. Internet
hops can be viewed using a
traceroute, which displays the address of and time taken to reach each
hop. The
hops taken from your machine to our Usenet servers are not necessarily the same
hops taken on the return trip. Giganews provides a
reverse traceroute utility that clearly shows the route traffic takes from our Usenet servers to your computer, helping to identify and resolve any speed issues you may encounter with our newsgroups."
